A-300What It Refuses

What it refuses
to do.

Most construction software is sold on what it will fill in for you. This is a list of the things ours declines to fill in, and the reason for each. It is the shortest honest description of how we build.

On a job site, a confident wrong number is worse than a blank one.

01

It will not produce a price.

Estimating assembles the scope, the quantities, and what this trade cost you last time. The number stays the estimator’s. A system that invents a price can lose you the job and cannot tell you which line did it.

Estimating · takeoff and price memory

02

It will not invent a date.

Submittal scheduling works backward from the real lead time and the real need-by. Where a lead time is not known, the register says it is not known rather than showing a deadline nobody ever committed to.

Submittals · backward pass

03

It will not say a sub owns work on an unsigned purchase order.

Ask who owns the acoustic door seals and the answer arrives with its contract state attached. “They signed for it” and “the purchase order is still unsigned” are different facts, and a superintendent standing on the floor acts differently on each.

Field · scope lookup

04

It will not net over-billing against under-billing.

They are two different problems needing two different conversations, and a single blended number hides both. One is money you have taken and not earned. The other is money you have earned and not asked for.

WIP · over / under billing

05

It will not infer insurance coverage.

A certificate with no expiry date is a certificate with no expiry date. It is never quietly read as “probably still covered.” That distinction is the whole difference between a compliance file and a lawsuit.

Compliance · certificates of insurance

06

It will not let the record be edited.

The field log is append-only. A correction is an addition, so what was written on the 14th still reads as what was written on the 14th. A daily report you can quietly revise is not evidence of anything.

Field · daily log

07

It will not report a margin on work you have not bought.

Until the trades are actually awarded, a margin figure is a forecast wearing the costume of a fact. The board shows what is bought, what is chosen but not awarded, and what is still an estimate, as three separate numbers.

Buyout · cost ledger

08

It will not assume a line owes no labor rates or no sales tax.

A supplier who ships fixtures genuinely has no labor rate to declare. Some trades genuinely carry no sales tax breakout. Either can be marked not applicable, but only by a person, on that line, with a reason on record. Never because the trade name sounded like it should be exempt.

Purchasing · award gate

09

It will not read a bidder’s silence as coverage.

A subcontractor who excludes three lines has said nothing about the other forty. Coverage is proposed only from what they actually wrote, in their own words, and an estimator confirms or discards it. Silence is never read as yes.

Invitations to Bid · coverage reading

10

It will not let a subcontractor close their own punch item.

A sub marks an item done from their phone. That is their claim, not a closed record. It goes back to you for review, and only your review closes it, the same distinction the field log keeps between what was reported and what was verified.

Closeout · punch list

11

It will not let a bid opportunity sit unanswered without saying so.

An inquiry with nobody logged against it, a bid date approaching with no price on it, a pursuit gone quiet, each one is a named alarm rather than a lead that just falls out of the funnel. A pipeline that only shows the wins is not a pipeline, it is a highlight reel.

Pursuits · opportunity watch

12

It will not show the owner what a trade cost you to buy.

A change order letter states the price. What that scope actually cost you against what you sold it for is your own number, computed and held on your side only, never printed on the document an owner signs.

Change Orders · pricing

13

It will not decide whether a bill over the sub’s own proposal is a problem.

When total billing on a purchase order passes what the sub originally proposed, the line states the exact dollar amount over, in red, next to the invoice. It never blocks approval or a payment. That judgment is yours, on a fact the system will not soften or hide.

Cost · sub invoices

Why we publish this.

Because it is the part a competitor cannot match with a release note. Filling in the blank is what their demo is for; here the blank is the feature. And because a contractor who has been burned by a confident dashboard recognises this list immediately, while everyone else scrolls past it. That is the correct filter.

Every rule on this page is enforced in the code, not in the marketing. If one is ever relaxed in the product, it comes off this page the same day.
